If you want to avoid crowded beach areas like Pattaya, but do not want to stray too far from Bangkok, Sattahip is the place for you. Located only half an hour from Pattaya, this small town is a haven amongst the chaos to the north. Sattahip, while being a small town, is also home to the Royal Thai Naval Base, which keeps the beaches pristine and quiet.
Location
Sattahip is a small Amphoe located eighty-five kilometers from Chonburi. Home to the largest naval base in Thailand, this town still retains its allure as a small fishing village.

Highlights

Bang Sa Le

Bang Sa Le: Bang Sa Le is a quaint coastal fishing town, offering local color as well as charming restaurants. The fishing here is outstanding and local companies have boats which can be chartered at a minimal cost.

Sattahip Naval Base

The Sattahip Naval Base: Despite the fact that the government owns and manages the majority of the land in the area, civilians are still welcome to visit the beaches and unclassified sections of the base.

Chakkri Naruebet Aircraft Carrier

The Chakkri Naruebet Aircraft Carrier: This is the first and only aircraft carrier in Thailand. Tourists are allowed to visit the ship, and see the workings of this jewel of the Thai Navy. It is located one kilometer from the pier at Had Nang Ram, where the water is clean and the food is sumptuous.

Samaesan

Samaesan Village: This sleepy little beach town is located at the end of Amphoe Sattahip. In the water, you can see the many fishing boats that generate the majority of the income for the locals. This is a wonderful place to see the lifestyles of these hard working people. Inside the village is Wat Luang Pho Dam, which stands as a monument to their belief in the lord Buddha. From the beach, you will overlook crystal clear water and several of the islands off the coast.

How to Get There
From the town of Chonburi, take Highway 3 past Amphoe Bang Lamung and Pattaya to Amphoe Sattahip. The total distance is eighty-five kilometers. Before reaching Amphoe Sattahip, turn at the Chuk Samet Pier to see the Aircraft Carrier and the Samaesan Village.
