The Thilole Waterfall is the popular fall for adventerers in the Tak Province. It gained much of its popularity, not because of its rushing water, but because it is so much fun getting to. Most people reach Thilole by rafting for up forty kilometers down exciting and challenging rapids, while enjoying scenes that can only be had in Thailand.
Location
The Thilole Waterfall is located in the forest above the Mae Klong River on the border of the Umphang and Thung Yai Naresuan Wildlife Sanctuary.

Highlights

Rafting: Among the creeks and rivers in the kingdom, rafting down the Mae Klong River in Umphang offers the best combination of excitement and scenery. While on your trip, you will see birds, monkeys, and other wildlife playing amongst the sheer cliffs that flank the river.

Your rafting trip will begin in the Karen village of Palatha. This village is twenty-seven kilometers from Umphang and offers an insight into the Karen people's way of life. Once on the water, you will pass eleven reefs. The rapids here range from moderate to difficult. The total distance for the trip is forty kilometers.
When you reach Kaeng OkTaek, you will see the Thilole Waterfall. This waterfall drops over a sheer cliff; creating a thick blanket of water plunging into the river below. The waterfall is the preferred campsite for those wishina to press on.
In the morning, you will be awakened by the diffused sunlight shinning through the forest. From here, you can either walk or ride an elephant for the next thirty-five kilometers to the Karen village. Depending on the time you leave and your pace, you may be required to camp an additional night.

How to Get There
From the town of Tak, take Highway 1 to Kamphaeng Phet for seven kilometers. Turn right on to Highway 105 to Amphoe Mae Sot and drive for eighty-seven kilometers. Next, turn left on to Highway 1090 toward Amphoe Umphang for 164 kilometers. From here, you will need to continue on for an additional twenty-seven kilometers until you reach the Karen village of Palatha. Rafting from Palatha to the Thilole Waterfall takes about five hours. The total distance from Tak is 285 kilometers.
